Can Lose Weight Fast By Running?

lose-weight-fast-by-running
There are many people who think that running is good if you want to lose weight fast. Of course, running is a good way of exercise, where your fitness improves and you get more energy. There are many people that their weight level up by going jogging three times a week. But personally, I advise you not to go running to lose weight if your main goal, especially if you are a beginner and if all do not if you are overweight ...

Injury sensitivity
The problem with running is the impact your joints have to endure with each pass and the high risk of injuries. Every time you hit the ground, your knees, ankles, and hips get heavy blows. If your body is not used to this, you can get problems very quickly such as overuse symptoms and full-blown injuries of the knee, hip, groin, and ankle. In such a case, it may take weeks before you are able to move normally again, and that is very a shame, especially if you were losing weight.

Inefficient fat burning
In addition, running for a beginner is not an effective training to burn body fat. After all, your heartbeat soon becomes too high. You then burn mainly carbohydrates and hardly any fat. Only when you are well trained in running - so if you have sufficient control over the running technique and your endurance is sufficient - can you keep your heart rate within the 'fat burning zone'.

But to get to the level where you consciously keep your heartbeat frequency within limits to burn fat, you have to train weeks, if not months. You will have to get your body used to the effort and the kind of movement. Not only your muscles (because of acidification), but especially your heart and your lungs (because of heart-lung function).

Alternatives
If you are on a diet and only practice running to be able to lose weight fast, then it is better to choose another exercise, for example, fitness on a cross trainer. This costs less effort, is less stressful for your joints and you can also as a beginner directly on the right level in terms of a heartbeat.

If you are planning to run because you like it, start calmly and alternate you're running regularly with long walks. This way you ensure a lower heart rate. Moreover, your joints get more time to get used to the impact and effort of running.

Jogging is not a good way of losing weight and burning fat; at least not for people who really need them to lose weight. Every sport is better than no sport, but the combination of jogging and losing weight is not nearly as effective and efficient as many people think. This has to do with the following factors:
  • People who are overweight are generally novice athletes with a bad condition. By running, they quickly get out of breath and their heartbeat is much too high for efficient weight loss (fat burning).
  • The impact that jogging causes loads the joints considerably. People who want to lose weight are usually overweight and the excess pounds greatly increase the impact and strain of running. This means a big chance of injuries.
  • Injuries due to overweight & jogging
  • Running involves a considerable impact. Every time one of your feet touches the ground, the knee, ankle, and hip will endure a heavy blow. If your body is not used to this, (serious) injuries can occur. If you are also overweight, the blow to your joints is much greater.
This also increases the chance of injuries. And you do not want injuries because they have to heal. And during the healing process, you are out of the running and you can not actively lose weight.

Better alternatives
Jogging is a good way of exercise, but not for beginning athletes who are overweight. If you have a good physical condition, a reasonable to a healthy weight and know how to run, jogging is only to be welcomed. You get more energy, better condition and you keep your weight up to standard. However, if you are overweight and in poor condition, and you want to exercise to lose weight, there are plenty of better alternatives. Some examples of good sports for overweight people who want to lose weight are:
  • Crosstrainer & exercise bike
  • Cycling & spinning
These sports have little or no impact and they are easier to keep up with overweight. Moreover, it is easier to keep your heart rate under control when practicing these forms of sport.

Practice makes perfect
Running really only really makes sense for losing weight if you are in good shape and well trained. Only then will your heartbeat stay at the level at which you burn fat. To reach this level, you need to train for months and get your body used to the movement.

When you start jogging, you regularly have to walk slowly. This way you maintain a lower heart rate and your joints can get used to the effort. In short: do not start running until you are rid of your excess weight and if you have already built up a reasonable condition.

Finally
Incidentally, this article is by no means meant to criticize joggers and runners or to criticize running as a sport. The point is that jogging is not the most efficient and safe activity for beginners looking for a sport just to lose weight fast (to lose pounds and burn fat). Running is a beautiful sport and if you have the frame and the physical competence and capacity, then keep on jogging!
