Diet Tips: Lose Weight For Women Over 40

Lose weight women over 40 impossible? Not if you take into account the following matters. Many women notice that once they have passed 40, losing weight is much more difficult than before. In fact, many have the feeling that they arrive just like that. The result is that they eat less and less, but is that the solution?

What happens to your body around that age?

Around the age of 40, your hormone system will change. Even if your period is still regular and you do not notice anything, it can be that something is already changing internally. Sometimes you notice that you (more) suffer from mood swings or suddenly have to cry, but also getting tired faster or being hungry can be signs of a change in the hormone balance. This can lead to eating sweets (the so-called fast sugars). And that is not surprising because you want to get rid of that annoying feeling caused by a low serotonin level. And that works with this. However, not for long! Because after about 15 minutes you feel like sweet again!

Due to the change in your hormone system, you may be poorly (or) asleep. This makes more ghrelin (the hormone that makes you have more appetite) and
less leptin is produced (a hormone that causes satiety). Another reason why you go to fast sugars especially.

Furthermore, your metabolism slows down because you lose about 4.5 pounds of muscle mass between your 40th and 50th. This increases your fat mass. So even if you continue to eat the same, it will result in an increase in weight. But eating less and less is not the solution. Because if you eat less and less, your metabolism will slow down even more, so you will arrive faster and more. Your body goes into the so-called low-energy mode and burns less quickly. Just think: if you have a regular income, you spend money more easily than if you do not know when money is coming back. That is how your body also reasons!

But what can you do about it?

Make sure you keep moving. You do not have to walk marathons but every day at least half an hour of brisk walking gives rest first in your head, it relaxes and it ensures that your metabolism stays higher. If you also do strength training a few times a week, you ensure that your muscle mass decreases less quickly. This keeps your resting metabolism higher.

Eat regularly (3 main meals and a maximum of 3 snacks) and make sure you get good carbs (eg brown rice, sweet potato, quinoa, millet). These make serotonin (the substance that gives you a good feeling). Also, ensure a good intake of proteins. You do not have to eat an excessive amount of protein, but you do need them. Try to use as much vegetable protein and fish as possible. Vegetable proteins are tofu, tempeh, seitan, all kinds of legumes, lentils. And it is also important that you eat a lot of vegetables and moderate fruit.

Make sure you do not have jammers (mobile phone, television for example) in your bedroom so that you can get a good night's sleep easier.
Take enough rest too!

If you still feel that you can not get a grip on it, it may be wise to have a look at whether there are other reasons why weight loss or weight loss cannot be achieved. Then you can think of a slow thyroid gland, adrenal exhaustion, but also acidification, too high production of estrogens can be a cause.
